Please remember that if our local schools are closed due to weather conditions, then we will also be closed. We also follow their delay schedule for winter weather conditions. We do our best to inform patrons of evening event cancellations, but please call ahead if you are questioning the weather.

Join the Highgate Public Library and Success By six on Tuesday mornings at 9:00am for some ice time during the month of November. Skates and crates will be available, but children may also wear boots if they are more comfortable. We are NOT ACCEPTING any large book donations until May 2010, when we hold our annual book sale. We are sad to say that we no longer have the space for their storage. As much as we hate to turn away books, at this time we must. We do thank you for thinking of us though!

     The Highgate Recreation Department, Public Library & Jay Peak would like to present Family Ski & Ride Days. We want to encourage as many people who want to ski or ride this coming winter to take advantage of this great opportunity. On the Family Ski & Ride Days you, your family and friends can go ski or ride Jay for $20.00 – $25.00. It is easy to take advantage of this opportunity, simply email highgatefamilyski@gmail.com or call 868-4697 x 202. We must have 22 people signed up by Friday mornings at 9am with the exception of Thanksgiving week, Christmas week and New Years week those will be Wednesdays at noon.

• If  for some reason the weather is really bad or we don’t have enough people signed up, the ski date will be canceled and everyone who has signed up will be notified. Tickets can be picked up and paid for on each ski date morning between 8:30 – 10:30 in State side lodge from the table that is labeled Highgate Recreation/Public Library.
• Checks made out to Jay Peak or Cash
•  Prices are $20.00 or $25.00 see attached calendar for dates and prices. We need volunteers to help in the morning (1 or 2 per ski date). If you would like to help please contact Michelle at 868-4697 x202 or highgatefamilyski@gmail.com to find out more information or to sign up.

Position: Teen Advisory Board Member
The volunteer assuming this task will provide a one hour monthly service to the Highgate Public Library. Additional volunteer hours at the request of the member will be reviewed and assigned by Liza (Library Director). Questions pertaining to this membership should be directed to Liza, and in her absence, Audrey (Assistant Librarian).

Duties:
1. Recommend books for purchase for the young adult/teen section.
2. Discuss and problem solve how the Highgate Public Library can meet needs of teens/young adults within our community.
3. Discuss projects and programs you feel are needed, and how you can help accomplish them and carry them out.
4. Plan and carry out one community service project each year.
5. Must help out at the teen events: either with the clean up or set up.

Qualifications/Recommendations:
1. Must enjoy working with others in a team setting.
2. Must be a Highgate resident in 7th -12th grade.
3. Must dress and behave appropriately as a representative of the Highgate Public Library during meetings and events.
4. Must be respectful to members of the TAB and others within the library.
5. Must have an open mind and accept all ideas/suggestions without judgment. The group will then discuss the pros and cons of each suggestion/idea.

Time Commitment:
• 1 hours one afternoon each month
• Additional hours as requested for subcommittee meetings or special programs and projects
• Teen events: please plan on either helping set up the event, or cleaning up afterwards.

    Volunteering is a wonderful and fulfilling way to contribute to your community. Here at the Highgate Public Library, there are many different projects that you can participate in throughout the year. Many of these projects require no long standing commitment, and fit easily into your schedule. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we are able to have Saturday Library hours, which are completely volunteer staffed.
